Fall = a time to go within, reflect, and be grateful!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be able to attend the “I Can Do It Conference” held here in D.C. where I live.  It was a gorgeous day and the drive to the  The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center couldn’t have been better – zero traffic & sunny – I was there in about 20 minutes.

The most fantastic part was getting to meet my hero and someone I really look up to in the health & detox world – Kris Carr (check out her books and website at Kriscarr.com).  She is even lovelier in person and an absolute delight to chat with.  She even offered to come speak at the hospital where I work – I am so excited to get that ball rolling, and when I do – trust me I will let everyone in the area know!

Seeing Kris brought back memories of how I begun reading her books when I was trying to figure out why “eating healthy” was just not working for me.  What does eating healthy mean anyway?  The answer is all about bio-individuality my friends.  

My journey with food taught me that it’s all about how much prana or life force foods have in them.  The closer they were to earth while growing and the more raw they were when I consumed them, they more prana they contained and in turn, the more prana or life force I would get.  

I also realized that we are like petri dishes and we need to experiment with food and see what really works – you see I realized that some foods actually inflame me and other foods really fuel me, but what fueled me did not necessarily fuel other people in my family or people I work with.  The hardest part is realizing that just because something is considered ‘healthy’ doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for your body – I have found that to be so true with me.  Grains & most legumes just do not nourish my body, they actually make me look and feel heavy.  I also realized that a complete vegetarian diet was not going to work either  and that I needed to add some clean, organic protein in with my meals to sustain me and to actually keep the weight off.  I also realized that what worked in my 20’s just doesn’t work in my 40’s, but I must say – I feel so much more present & alive now than I ever did in my 20’s.  Awareness, being present, & paying attention each and everytime you decide to put something in your mouth is the key!

 In celebration of fall, here is a yummy fall recipe from my Revitalize Fall Detox Program 


Sweet Potato Cauliflower Soup

1 large head cauliflower

Few dashes garam masala (optional)

3 medium to large sized peeled sweet potatoes, cut into 1″ pieces

1 sweet onion, diced

2 cloves garlic

6 cups vegetable broth

1 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 400 °F. Wash and cut cauliflower, then sprinkle lightly with garam masala. Place cauliflower onto parchment covered baking sheet and lightly drizzle with olive oil. Roast about 20-30 minutes. In large stockpot, bring sweet potato, onion, garlic, salt and broth to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sweet potatoes are tender. Add in cooked cauliflower and blend half then combine.
