On this lunar eclipse, the Sun enters Taurus and the Moon in Scorpio.
Both of these signs are fixed, meaning they are Tamasic in nature. Rāhu (one of the nodes) is also adding to this tamasic, dark energy.
QUALITIES OF TAMAS:
Tamas by definition is destructive, dull, slow, thoughtless and unconscious.
Tamas brings boredom, confusion, darkness, greediness, ignorance, laziness, heaviness, and aversion of religion.
“The body follow the mind and mind follows the body“
Tamas transforms life by removing the old to make room for the new. This eclipse, therefore, is an opportunity for transformation.
“What you do and what happens in your life is the result of the guns in your mind“
In order to lighten the heavy tamasic energy caused by this eclipse, I recommend practices with Sattvic qualities.
QUALITIES OF SATTVA:
Sattva is sustenance, balance, honesty, charity, harmony, higher consciousness, proper use of the energy, joy, equanimity, calmness, simplicity, happiness, patience, compassion, fearlessness, faithfulness.
What practices can you do this weekend to bring in more Sattva into your life?
I recommend increasing the elements of Ākāśa (space) and Jala (water). Here’s how:
- Ringing (or listening to) a Tibetan bell or singing bowls – this clears the space and increases Sattva
- Listening to the sound of the ocean or a bubbling stream – this increases Jala (which nourishes)
- Meditating on Svādhisthāna (sacral) Chakra and chanting the bija mantra VAM which increases Jala (water element) and allows for the space of gentleness and healing
- Chanting the mantra for Jupiter “Om Namaha Gurave” – increases Ākāśa and Sattva.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, by balancing the gunas, we balance the tattvas (elements) and ultimately the doshas.
And finally, remember that this eclipse is an opportunity for new opportunities to enter your life by balancing the doshas through practices such as self-reflection, meditation, and self-care.
Wishing all of you a peaceful, harmonious Lunar Eclipse.
